Period doubling renormalization plays a crucial role in understanding
the boundary of chaos in one-dimensional dynamics. The main phenomena
are rigidity and parameter and phase space universality. The course
will discuss the boundary of chaos for strongly dissipative
two-dimensional Henon maps. Again universality and rigidity play a
crucial role but surprisingly, in two-dimensional dynamics, they have
a probabilistic nature. If time allows we will discuss
renormalization beyond period doubling.
